Philippe Gombert is the son and grandson of Paris-based hoteliers who originated from the southwest of France.
A lawyer by training, he began his career in the hotel industry in 1982 when his family acquired the «Château de la Treyne» in Lacave, in the Perigord Noir, about 150 miles east of Bordeaux.
For about ten years, he spent his weeks in Paris as a lawyer and his weekends at the Château, while his German-born wife Stephanie managed the property and family. Ten years later, in 1992, the Château was admitted into Relais & Châteaux.
Passionate about Relais & Châteaux since he was a child, thanks to his mother, Philippe has been involved in the Association for 12 consecutive years. Starting in 1992 as a member of the Delegation of the Grand Sud-Ouest, before serving as Regional Delegate from 2001 to 2005, then appointed as Secretary General in 2005, coordinating all French regions from 2006 to 2009 as National Delegate for France, and finally serving on the Association’s Executive Committee from 2009 as Secretary General.
In November 2014, he was elected as the President of the group and re-elected for a second 5-year term in November 2017.
